What counts as a win
A dispute is considered won when:
- The dispute status transitions to
CLOSED_WONin RecurCite, or - A Stripe webhook confirms the outcome as "won" with funds reinstated
Recovered amount is the dispute amount (in cents) at the time the dispute is confirmed won. The success fee is calculated as a percentage of this recovered amount.
Note
RecurCite does not charge any fee on lost disputes. You only pay when we help you win.
When we charge
| Charge type | When | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Success fee | Immediately on win | Recorded once when a dispute transitions to CLOSED_WON |
| Monthly fee | End of billing period | Pro/Scale only; only applies after your first win |
| Processing overage | End of billing period | If submission attempts exceed monthly submissions included |
No charge before value
Monthly fees for Pro and Scale only begin after your organization's first dispute win. We don't charge before delivering value.
Submission consumption
A submission is consumed when a submission attempt is created (i.e., when evidence is submitted to Stripe). Important distinctions:
- Generating a Bundle does not consume a submission
- Generating a PDF Packet does not consume a submission
- Only the actual submission to Stripe counts
- Failed submissions still count (the attempt was made)
Proof Discount
Maintain high evidence quality to earn reduced success fees. The Proof Discount rewards organizations that consistently provide strong evidence.
Eligibility
| Plan | Requirement | Discount |
|---|---|---|
| Pro | Evidence Health grade ≥ A on ≥ 80% of disputes (last 30 days) | Success fee drops from 10% to 8% |
| Scale | Evidence Health grade ≥ A on ≥ 80% of disputes (last 30 days) | Success fee drops from 7% to 6% |
| Free / Recover | — | Not eligible |
A dispute has "grade A" evidence when its latest Bundle score is ≥ 80. The discount is evaluated on a rolling 30-day window and checked periodically.
Tip
To maximize your Proof Discount eligibility, send all relevant evidence types: terms.accepted, user.login, product.used, and cancellation events. See Event Reference for the full list.
Stripe's dispute fee
Stripe charges a $15 fee per dispute regardless of outcome. This is separate from RecurCite's pricing:
- When you win: Stripe refunds their $15 fee
- When you lose: Stripe keeps their $15 fee
- RecurCite's success fee is calculated on the recovered dispute amount only — not on Stripe's fee
Billing idempotency
All billing operations are idempotent:
- Each dispute generates at most one success fee entry
- Monthly fees and overage entries are idempotent per billing period
- Multiple Stripe webhooks for the same outcome won't create duplicate charges
Refunds & credits
- If a dispute outcome is reversed after a success fee is charged, a credit entry offsets the original charge
- Monthly fees are non-refundable once the billing period starts (pro-rated credits may be issued at discretion)
- All charges and credits are visible in your billing ledger
